Power in Me
If we simply dare to think we are powerful, does the body inevitably follow where the mind leads?
Power in Me is an interactive installation that transforms the abstract concept of inner power into a tangible reality. Bridging psychological theory with new media art, this installation explores embodied cognition.
How it works?
Participants navigate a custom pathway embedded with load cells that measure the intensity of their steps. When a participant entered the venue the installation starts to lead them. It basically asks the reasons them feel powerful and take a step. Each step they are taking they need to find another reason why they are powerful. While thinking how powerful they are, they truly start to feel powerful and their steps gets firmer and more strong. That creates biometric data where I collected from steps. This biometric data drives a real-time generative digital artwork, creating an immediate feedback loop. As participants move on the way with mentally affirming their power, the visual output evolves, serving as physical proof that the awareness of one’s own power is what truly empowers them.
This experience was designed to be done one-on-one with yourself. Participants enter the installation alone. Because it operates like a form of self-affirmation, my goal was to create an environment that feels as meditative as possible.
After a short brief is given to the participant, the door closes and they remain inside by themselves. There is no time limit. The purpose of this is to help the participant express themselves more comfortably and disconnect from external pressure. They can say the reasons they feel powerful out loud, or simply think them internally. But knowing that no one will hear them gives participants the freedom to speak openly and that freedom makes the experience more powerful.
